- Create an ideal performance environment:
- Help the students create an environment that is conducive to fostering success, progress and positive mentalities. One way of doing this is to help students adopt a more process oriented mindset rather than an outcome oriented mindset. While it is important to understand the ultimate goal (outcome) it is much more important to focus on the processes that need to be invested in in order to achieve this end result or outcome. It is about helping the clients understand and buy into the fact that the end goal is a bi-product of the process they saturate themselves in. Help your students become architects and engineers of their own positive performance environment. They must buy into the creation of this environment and thereafter become responsible for and accountable to it.
- Create a motivational climate:
- Adding to the above it is important that we assist students in creating small victory opportunities. While keeping an eye on the end prize but focusing more heavily on smaller process clients are creating a positive motivational climate. Every time a small process goal is achieved the student is likely to feel encouraged, motivated and driven to keep persevering and pursuing that ultimate goal. Build progress points into your students journey. These will be milestones that they can tick off their list on their way to a successful performance potential. Creating an ideal and positive performance environment (point1) will increase the chances of succeeding at achieving mini process goals.
- Build a relationship with your clients:
- Building a rapport with students is a very important step in creating success opportunities. Students will respond much more positively when they feel more secure, less intimidated and more comfortable when training. It is up to you as the professional to create this relationship. Your students will start absorbing greater value from the sessions when they feel “more at home” and free to express themselves. With this being said however, a fine line must be drawn. Although a friendly environment and relationship will likely develop as time progresses it is important to ensure that the client still remains professional and focused on the tasks and goals at hand. Remember, it is a professional relationship and in this industry we are providing a professional service.
